For Dons fans witnessing their club's first ever fixture it was a time to celebrate the present and dream of the future.
James Hickson from Wimbledon said: "This is what I've been waiting for all my life, getting the club back in Wimbledon and that can happen.
"We will take the league for starters and then get into the Football League, then into the Premiership and then into Europe in about 10 years."
Jerzy Dabrowski from Morden praised the fan power which had made the Dons' dream a reality. "It's our club, we have a new club, started by the fans, run by the fans and without big business.
Merton resident Mark Brooman said: "I think it's a continuation of our history, we're back to where we were 11 years ago. I just come for the football."
