The UK Government showed its true colours this week after coming to the aid of American companies such as Monsanto by lobbying myself and other British MEPs to reject tighter controls on labelling genetically modified foods.
However, despite this pressure, the European Parliament voted for even tighter controls than those proposed by the European Commission. Rest assured that the industry and UK Government will not take this defeat easily, and those who wish to force us to eat genetically modified foods by stealth will be back. However, as London's Green Euro MP, I will be working with the other Greens in the European
Parliament to defend our right to choose whether or not we eat genetically modified foods.
Many Londoners have already taken the opportunity to write to me expressing their concerns about genetically modified food. If any readers want to be kept up to date about this debate in the Parliament, please write to me at the address below.
