Police tracking a Harpenden sex pest believe that the different cars used in the two attacks could hold the key to his identity.

Led by Detective Superintendent Bob Saunders and Detective Chief Inspector Dave West, the investigation team is focusing its attention on the two vehicles used in the April and June incidents that both took place in Piggotshill Lane.

DS Saunders said: "We are in no doubt that it is the same man who committed both indecent assaults.

"The two incidents took place just yards from each other and the methods and descriptions of the offender are both very similar. However, it appears that the offender has used two different cars and we believe these are key to our investigation"

In the first attack on April 7, it is believed the attacker used a silver Vauxhall Astra with a C or D registration. But in the latest attack on Wednesday, June 19, the man used a small red M registration car of a similar size to a Vauxhall Corsa.

"We want to hear from anyone who knows a man fitting the description of the offender, who has owned or had access to one or both of theses vehicles at the times the offences were committed," DS Saunders added.

An incident room has now been set up by Hertfordshire Constabulary's major crime task force as detectives step up their hunt for the man, described as having tanned or dark skin, is 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in tall, in his late 30s, and with dark hair. Contact the incident room on 01442 271188 or you can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
