AN 11-year-old boy has been commended for his achievements as a swimmer and as a pupil.
Michael Gunning, of Sefton Road, Petts Wood, picked up four gold and two silver medals at the Kent County Swimming Association championships in March.
The Crofton Junior School pupil won gold in the 400m individual medley (IM), 200m butterfly, 50m butterfly, 200m IM and silver in the 200m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.
At a ceremony at the school, Michael was presented with the Year 6 student achievement award by the Petts Wood and District Residents' Association.
Mum Gillian, 43, said: "He trains every night for at least 90 minutes at Crystal Palace but not only is Michael a dedicated swimmer, he always tries his hardest at school."
The school described him as a "real star".
