WANSTEAD and Leyton MP Harry Cohen has slammed a new initiative by the government, claiming it will contribute to council tax rises in Redbridge.
Due to come into practice in April, Local Authority Grant Settlement was criticised by the Labout MP on the grounds of cash increases to schools could lead to less funds for other essential services, like social services.
At a recent meeting with Nick Raynsford, Mr Cohen said: "It is shocking to think that the extra six per cent the governemnt allocated for improving social services nationally is unlikely to be seen in Redbridge.
"This could result in NHS improvements for vulnerable individuals being set back because of inadequacy in the community services."
