A CARE home and a high street fast-food restaurant have scooped top honours for their high standards of cleanliness and service.
For the first time, Bexley Council has rewarded local catering enterprises with the Bexley Clean Food awards. The awards are given to businesses which set their sights higher than the minimum standards required.
The joint winners are the Wimpy, in Bexleyheath Broadway, and the Abbotsleigh Mews care home, in Old Farm Road East, Sidcup.
The Wimpy is a family-owned business and has long connections with the town. Before buying the Wimpy, the Ahmet family ran the Silver Lounge in the 1960s. Abbotsleigh is part of Bupa and caters for 120 elderly frail people.
Congratulating them, cabinet member for the environment Councillor Joel Briant said: "These businesses demonstrate the high standards the public has a right to expect."
