A DOUBLE inquest has opened on the father and son killed in a helicopter crash.
Flight instructor Paul Kennedy, 45, and his 15-year-old son, Simon, had just got the five-seater Bell 206 Jet Ranger back after a four-day maintenance check.
The pair were killed when the private aircraft crashed into a field, in Cudham Lane South, and burst into flames at about 3.40pm soon after taking off from Biggin Hill Airport for a 15-minute journey to Southend Airport, on January 17.
A Department of Aviation pathologist's report said Paul Kennedy, from Shoebury, Essex, and son Simon, who lived in Old Leigh, Essex, with his mother, died from multiple injuries.
Coroner Dr Roy Palmer adjourned the January 23 inquest at Croydon Coroner's Court so investigations into the cause of the tragedy could continue.
