A PROUD mum, whose soldier son is preparing to depart for the Middle East, feels the Army has changed him for the better.
Patricia Glover, 51, of Mallard Walk, Foots Cray, is proud of 20-year-old Trooper Darren of the Second Royal Tank Regiment.
Although the mother-of-four said she fears for her son's safety should a war with Iraq occur, she feels the Army has had a positive effect on him.
Mrs Glover said: "He was very quiet and laid back when he went into the army but it has changed him and made a man of him.
"He is a darling lad but with the threat of war, I am suffering sleepless nights."
Tank driver Darren, who went to Hurstmere Secondary School, Hurst Road, Sidcup, joined up aged 16 and should leave for the Persian Gulf in mid-February.
