THE flag at Watford Town Hall flew at half mast on Monday in respect of former borough and county councillor Stella Meldrum who has died.
Mrs Meldrum was a Labour member of Watford Council from 1972 to 1984, representing Queen's (now Central) ward and Hertfordfordshire County Council member for the Vicarage/Holywell ward from 1973 to 1977 and from 1981 to 1997.
She was bestowed with the Freedom of the Borough in October 1997 in recognition of services to the community, particularly in the areas of education, health, the local library service and racial harmony.
A member of Watford Labour Party for 40 years, she was also a member of the executive of the Labour Party and had widespread interests in the community.
She was a governor of Watford Grammar School for Girls, an active member of the Community Health Council and took a lively interest in the library service.
