Snakes and spiders greeted children when they arrived at Purley Nursery on January 16 but many of the new arrivals settled in well.
Humphrey the giant toad and a Russian glass lizard were just two of the weird and wonderful creatures stroked and stared at by inquisitive three-year-olds.
Purley nursery, based in Pampisford Road, played host to the exotic animals brought in by animal handler Terry Mills. One teacher said: "Many children have seen animals in the zoo but that's not the same as getting a hands-on experience like this. The children were very excited."
