The Bishop of Southwark opened the redesigned St Paul's Church on the Roundshaw Estate on Saturday, January 25.
The old church was knocked down as part of the Roundshaw regeneration and its site will make way for a new parade of shops.
The original church was built on the site of Croydon Aerodrome in 1981 and became known as the propeller church because the main cross was made from a plane's propellers.
The building has retained this original feature but is larger with more modern facilities.
Church reverend John Gould said: "It was an opportunity to build a more presentable church.
"But it also enables us to provide a new church hall with better community facilities."
