In the latest of his articles on Belmont, historian Roland Sparkes takes a pictorial look at the California Arms pub.
The local studies search room at Central Library, Sutton, possesses a wonderful collection of about 20,000 photographs covering the borough's past.
This includes more than 200 photos relating to the Belmont area two of the most charming of which are featured here.
Both views depict The California Arms public house, which was situated beside Brighton Road roughly opposite Belmont Station.
The change in the appearance of the building shown is due to the considerable extension work that was undertaken in about 1900.
