EFFORTS are being made to revive Richmond upon Thames Sports Council as 'the voice of sport'.

The council ceased to exist in April last year when it was unable to attract enough people to serve on the executive committee.

Now Councillor David Marlow, Cabinet member for libraries sport, art and leisure wants to get it going again.

He said: "We are keen to reform Richmond Sports Council as the voice of sport, particularly representing the voluntary sector across the borough. There are over 210 voluntary sports clubs in the borough borough and they provide the backbone of our sports service."

He added: "The reformation of Richmond Sports council will allow us to become even more in tune with the needs of the borough. We would hope that this new sports council would particularly assist us in developing sport for young people."

The first meeting to discuss the possible reforming of the sports council was held last night (Thursday) at York House.
