BEXLEYHEATH & CRAYFORD WATERSIDE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Our May meeting was primarily used to explain the two Resolutions that had been chosen after discussions at all levels on those put forward for us to pursue this year. We then had to vote either yes' or no' as to whether we agreed with them. It is a very democratic process and in past years the Government and others have taken a great deal of notice of our organisations view.

It was explained to us that although all the resolutions put forward were admirable, those chosen were the ones about which we felt we could have most influence on action to be taken.

They were: Farmgate milk prices (unfair difference between retail prices and price paid to farmers resulting in many dairy farmers going out of business), and Care of the Environment (reduce waste in our homes and communities and to lobby manufacturers, retailers and decision makers to reduce waste in production, packaging and transportation of public and consumer goods) both resolutions were approved of unanimously.

We had a longer tea-break than usual to get to know one another better. Then future walks and outings were announced, also that our ACWW collection would go towards helping people in Albania to help themselves in various ways, and the winners of our poetry competition were presented with small prizes.

We meet on the fourth Monday of each month at the District Scouts Headquarters in Mayplace Road West, Bexleyheath which is easily accessible by public transport and also has a car park.

Meetings start at 7.45pm, contact 01322 408749 for further details.
