TROPICAL monkey frogs, seahorses and four-eyed fish will get a new £1.5m home when a library is transformed into an aquarium.
The basement library at the 102-year-old Horniman Museum will make way for an aquarium housing 250 different species of animals.
It will feature 15 displays including a collection of jellyfish, a Mangrove swamp, endangered Fijian coral, shellfish and a realistic wave surge.
The museum, in London Road, Forest Hill, received a £1.1m grant for the project but is appealing for a further £400,000 to complete the aquarium, which is due to open in spring next year.
Museum manager Kerwin Porter said: "We want to encourage people to be aware of environments under threat by using live, creative exhibits.
"We have launched an ambitious appeal to raise the extra money and any sponsors would be very welcome."
