A POPULAR outdoor swimming pool which closed last year has reopened in time for the summer.
In April, News Shopper revealed plans to open Charlton Lido to the public after it was closed due to financial problems.
Now council chiefs have confirmed the 57-year-old pool will be open throughout the summer.
The lido, Charlton Park Lane, Charlton, remained closed last year due to concerns over water cleanliness and asbestos.
It was also targeted by vandals, further threatening its future.
There were fears at the time the pool could close permanently if the money could not be found to fund repair work.
But now Greenwich Council has given the attraction a lifeline.
Extensive repair work has been carried out to make it safer for swimmers.
Cabinet member for culture Councillor Vicky Morse said: "There are not many places where people can enjoy a swim outdoors these days, so all we need to do now is hope the weather holds out."
The Charlton Lido Swimming Club has led the campaign to give the pool a reprieve.
Club secretary Graham Jones says the news is a "great boost to the community" and reward for their hard work.
The lido is open throughout the summer, subject to weather conditions.
