NEW street lamps are to be installed in Welling as part of a safety scheme.
The light will be clearer than from ordinary street lamps and will improve visibility.
The lamps will be fitted over three months in parts of Bellegrove Road and the whole of Welling High Street.
The scheme will also include the removal of the pelican crossing in Bellegrove Road and the addition of a pedestrian phase to the traffic lights at Westwood Lane and Central Avenue.
The right turn from Upper Wickham Lane into Bellegrove Road will be reintroduced, the echelon parking will be converted to parallel parking and the kerb will be built out at Deepdene Road with additional parking and loading facilities.
The Welling stretch of the A207 is being resurfaced from July, continuing during the school holidays.
A plan of the work is on display in Welling Library, Bellegrove Road.
The work is being paid for with £500,000 from Transport for London but Bexley Council has also put in some money to make sure the new lighting covers the whole of Welling's town centre.
