A GROUP of pub regulars cycled from Kent to Bexleyheath.
The five-hour trip from Leysdown, the Isle of Sheppey, to the Rose pub in Bexleyheath Broadway, was undertaken by 18 regulars including the landlord Simon Harvey, 37, to raise money for Cancer Research.
Mr Harvey, who weighs in at 14 stone, decided to take part after one of his customers told him he was "too fat" to do it and promised him £100 towards the charity if he succeeded.
Drinks wholesaler Maison Maurice, also based off the Broadway, provided a van to ferry the bikes down to Leysdown for the long ride back.
The cyclists were welcomed back with a barbecue and by staff from Cancer Research.
The event raised £3,000 for the charity which will be added to the proceeds of the pub's annual walk in August for the same cause.
"Last year we raised £8,500 from the walk," said Mr Harvey. "This year I was determined to top £10,000, so we added the cycle ride."
