FIREFIGHTERS are offering free home fire safety checks to the elderly and vulnerable.
A team will go to homes to give general advice and check sockets and plugs for faults. They will also fit free smoke alarms to those who need them.
People aged over 60 are the most likely to die in fires and 60 per cent of fatal fires involve this age group.
A fire services spokesman said: "It is vital people take advantage of these free tests."
