A WEEKEND of fast and furious fundraising has netted more than £2,000 for a baby unit.
Darren Warner, 33, a machine operator and his wife Lorraine, 35, from West Street, Erith, embarked on a three-day fundraiser to thank the neo-natal unit at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, after their twin sons were born 13 weeks premature.
With help from The Ship pub, in West Street, Darren organised events for the bank holiday weekend.
Former darts world champion Andy Fordham took time off from his own Dartford pub to launch the darts marathon, where 15 regulars tried to score 65,000 points in 10 hours they ended up scoring 165,000 points.
Other highlights included Marcus the fire-starter who performed a number of fire stunts; a Ship Idol contest which attracted dozens of entries; a performance by the British Blues Brothers and a football match with regulars playing a team from the Met Police.
Despite being 4-1 down at half-time, the pub regulars won the match 5-4. Matalan, Shoefayre and Wilkinson's in the new Erith Riverside shopping centre gave £250 worth of gift vouchers as prizes.
Darren is hoping the events could make as much as £2,500 for the baby unit. Meanwhile his sons, Alfie and Charlie are now doing well.
