A WOMAN whose niece was killed in a road collision has handed a petition to a council as part of her road safety campaign.
Annette Donoghue, 37, of Brunswick Walk, Gravesend, lost her niece Kirsty, 11, in October last year when she was hit by a car on Lower Higham Road.
Since Kirsty's death, Miss Donoghue has been calling for a reduced speed limit on the road from 60mph to 40mph.
The mother-of-two presented the 3,000-name petition to Councillor Mike Snelling from Kent County Council (KCC) at Gravesham Civic Centre, in Windmill Street, on June 3.
She said: "We hope the council will take notice. I also want them to put signs up to warn drivers and pedestrians the road has no pavement."
The incident occurred in Cllr Snelling's ward.
He said: "It's immensely important KCC does everything it can to prevent this happening again."
An inquest has been opened into Kirsty's death.
