A GROUP of women who lived through the Second World War were invited to a trip down memory lane by some Brownies.
The 1st Blendon Brownies invited their guests from St James' Church, Bladindon Drive, Blendon, and the local Guide association to a VE Day tea.
The girls researched wartime food and made table decorations and menus and dressed the church hall with flags and wartime posters before getting busy in the kitchen.
Their five guests ate leek and potato soup, followed by corned beef and Spam served with new potatoes and salad and trifle, minus the jelly, for pudding.
With dark curtains blocking the windows because of the blackout, the Brownies entertained their guests with music and dancing.
The girls also learned more about the war years by talking to their guests and from wartime memorabilia including a ration book and an identity card.
