PUPILS and staff have successfully transformed a back yard into a garden haven.
Eighteen Abbey Wood School students took part in a four-week garden makeover challenge at Greenwich Women's Centre, Hare Street, Greenwich, last month.
The work was done by Volunteers Greenwich as part of a project to persuade businesses to let their employees do voluntary work during company time.
The group approached the women's centre with the offer of revamping its back yard into a sanctuary of plants and herbs.
Students from the Eynsham Bridge, Abbey Wood, school were helped by representatives from Community Respond Matters and the London Anti Crime and Education Scheme.
A Volunteers Greenwich spokesman said: "We painted and planted sensory plants and herbs. We also laid paving, put garden furniture together and made wonderful windchimes out of recycled materials.
"We have successfully turned this into a place to sit and reflect."
