RESIDENTS are celebrating after plans to erect a phone mast near their homes were rejected.

Donna May, 30, of Cavell Crescent, Dartford, is ecstatic Dartford Council has thrown out mobile phone company O2's application to put up a mast on land belonging to the Holiday Inn, in Bob Dunn Way.

She and neighbour Zoe Hobday, 24, organised a petition with 400 signatures opposing the prospect of having another 20-metre mast put up just 60 metres from their homes.

Miss May said: "I didn't think we stood a chance after the council said it was going to put a road through Central Park despite all those thousands of signatures so they have renewed my faith in them."

The two mums campaigned against the 20-metre mast, which they believed to be more powerful than the existing two masts already on the wasteland.

They feared for the health of their children if the mast went up, and Miss Hobday planned to move if the permission was granted.
