The labyrinth of dark and mysterious passageways which twist and turn for more than 20 miles below Chislehurst were dug over a period of 8,000 years.
The caves are a maze of ancient mines originally carved out in the search for flint and chalk and are divided into three main sections: Saxon, Druid and Roman.
Experienced guides lead lamp-lit tours, where visitors hear about the ancient miners and see the tunnels made famous as a shelter during the Second World War.
There are intriguing attractions such as a Druid Altar and a Haunted Pool, plus the usual gift shop and restaurant, so there should be plenty to keep the nippers out of trouble and they might just learn something as well.
Opening details: Wednesday to Sunday, 45-minute guided tours go every hour on the hour, 10am to 4pm; adults £4, under-16s and OAPs £2
