A JAMAICAN woman who used a false identity to live and work in the UK has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Tamika Benjamin, of Plumstead Common Road, Woolwich, admitted a string of fraud and deception offences at Croydon Crown Court.
Benjamin used the identity of a British citizen to obtain a passport and driving licence, which she went on to use to gain employment and a national insurance number.
The 30-year-old then used an altered Jamaican birth certificate, which falsely stated her father was British, to apply for a British passport and driving licence in her real name, and attempted to get British passports for her two children.
Following an investigation by the UK Border Agency’s London immigration crime team she was arrested on December 23 last year and later pleaded guilty to four charges of obtaining property by deception.
She also admitted charges of possessing identity documents with intent, fraud by false representation, and seeking leave to remain in the UK by deception.
The UK Border Agency will now seek to deport Benjamin once she has served her sentence.
