YOUNGSTERS wore hats for Haiti to raise more than £1,000 for victims of the recent earthquake.
All 460 pupils at Gravesend’s Riverview Junior School in Cimba Wood helped contribute to an appeal by the Gravesend Rotary Club to send humanitarian aid to the stricken Caribbean country.
Money was raised for two boxes of supplies to be sent by international disaster relief charity ShelterBox, which the school children can track all the way to Haiti.
The students aged between seven and 11 each paid a minimum of £1 to wear a hat of their choice for one day and also took part in a raffle, with all proceeds going to the charity.
Headteacher Rosemary Dymond said: “What a magnificent total raised by a school of children who recognised a real need.”
