ANGRY firefighters have sent out a warning to the occupants of flats across the area - don’t turn off a building’s fire alarm yourself.
Fire crews from Woolwich fire station arrived at a block of flats in Lansdowne Lane, Charlton, at 1.30am this morning (March 1) after being called to a suspected kitchen fire.
They arrived to find the building quiet and dark with no alarms ringing.
On further investigation it was discovered occupants of the flats had accessed the main alarm switchboard for the building and turned off the warning sirens.
Firefighters who attended the scene confirmed there was no fire but warned the fire brigade should turn off fire alarms and not tenants.
A spokesman for the station said: “It is up to us to turn off the alarms when we arrive at the scene.”
No-one was hurt in the incident this morning and the alarms are thought to have been triggered by burnt cooking in the communal kitchen.
