POLICE are appealing for information after a vehicle containing a canister of toxic chemicals was stolen.
The blue D21 Nissan truck, registration number R363PJO, was stolen from Newlands Park, Sydenham, at around 11.25am yesterday (February 25).
Inside the truck was a silver canister containing the toxic chemical aluminium phosphide, commonly used by professionals outdoors for the control of vermin, rats, rabbits and moles.
Aluminium phosphide is dangerous to humans if its gasses are inhaled.
The canister has a red lid and is about seven inches long. It should not be opened, damaged or brought into contact with water.
Police are asking anyone who sees the truck or the canister to call 999.
If you believe you may have come into contact with the contents of the canister, you should go outside into fresh air and seek medical advice immediately.
