CAMPAIGNERS have been demonstrating outside the High Court against the third runway at Heathrow airport.
The protest was in support of a legal challenge by the 2M Group to the government's decision to build the runway.
Whitefoot ward councillor Pete Pattisson, who joined the demonstration, said: “Thousands of Lewisham residents are disturbed by the relentless noise of low-flying planes.
“The third runway at Heathrow will not only make this problem worse, but will also increase the damage we cause to our environment.”
The 2M Group is an alliance of local authorities concerned about the environmental impact of Heathrow expansion on their communities and includes Lewisham and Greenwich Council.
Resident Diana Cashin of Bargery Road, Catford, said: “The third runway at Heathrow is unnecessary and unwanted.
“Our peace is often spoilt by these planes, especially in the early morning and I do hope the government rethinks on the third runway to prevent increased noise for us.”
