THE investigation team who caught six of those responsible for Britain’s biggest ever cash robbery have been commended for their work.
Three members of Kent police’s serious and organised crime unit were at Maidstone Crown Court last week to receive the commendation from the trial judge, Judge David Penry-Davey on behalf of the team.
He commended the speed, intelligence and thoroughness of the investigation.
More than 13 people were charged in connection with the £53m robbery at the Securitas Depot in Tonbridge in 2006, and six were convicted.
They included Welling garage owner Roger Coutts, aged 31, of The Green, Welling, who was jailed for 30 years in 2008.
Sidcup cage fighter Lee Murray, who lived with his partner and two children in Onslow Drive, Sidcup, was named as one of the masterminds behind the robbery.
He is currently in jail in Morocco but cannot be extradited to face trial as he claims Moroccan citizenship.
So far only £21m of the missing money has been recovered.
