A 35-YEAR-OLD man has been given an Asbo banning him from a town centre.
At Dartford Magistrates’ Court on February 19, Joe Glynn was given an Asbo banning him from Gravesend town centre for four years .
The order also bans Glynn, of Pelham Road, Gravesend, from entering any retail store of the Co-operative Group, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Tesco in the UK.
Glynn is also banned from threatening unlawful violence and directing threatening or abusive language towards any person in a public place.
The court heard Glynn had a 17-year history of offending across Kent and been arrested 33 times, with 16 of those for shoplifting and the rest for dishonesty and public order offences.
Glynn had previously been banned from Gravesend town centre from June 2007 to June last year, but began offending again once the order expired, the court was told.
After the hearing, Kent police neighbourhood inspector Mike Coltham, who investigated Glynn’s offences, said: “I’m pleased Joe Glynn has been banned from the town centre for such a long time.
“He has caused many problems for traders in the town centre and hopefully some of these will now be stopped.
“It’s pleasing the ban also extends to the four large retailers’ other premises across the country too.
“We have worked with the town centre businesses as well as our community safety unit partners, such as Gravesham Council and G-Safe, to have this ban imposed and it will have a positive impact for them.”
The town centre area Glynn is banned from is bordered by Bath Street, West Street, Crooked Lane, Queen Street, Parrock Street, Manor Road, Clive Road and New Road.
Anyone who sees Glynn breaching the terms of his Asbo should call Kent police on 01622 690690 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
