THOUSANDS of young people across the borough have elected 24 new councillors to the Bromley Youth Council.

Nine schools and three youth clubs hosted the elections and 7,000 young people voted for 75 candidates.

Following the latest election, there are now 70 representatives on the council.

Toyo Odetunde, 15, from Newstead Wood School and 12-year-old Daniel Winter from Coopers Technology College were elected members of the UK Youth Parliament.

The youth council allows young people to have a say in how local services are organised.

Bromley Council’s executive councillor for children and young Ppeople Ernest Noad said: “Bromley’s youth elections are a great way to get young people involved in political discussion and to enable our next generation of voters to experience at first hand what it means to take part in democracy.”
