A SCOUT group which is one of the oldest in the area is looking for former members to help it piece together its history.
The 2nd Erith Scouts are celebrating their 100th birthday this year with a series of events but are hoping to add to their collection of memorabilia with donations from former Scouts and leaders.
The group was founded in 1910 by a group of choirboys from St Paul’s Church in Mill Road, Northumberland Heath, and orginally met in Brook Street School, later to become part of Erith School.
The only local group to remain open throughout the Second World War, the Scouts moved first to a hall in Colyers Lane, Erith and then back to St Paul’s in the 1970s.
When Erith became part of the new London borough of Bexley in the 1960s, the group successfully fought to retain the Kent Invicta white horse as part of its badge.
Among the planned celebrations are a centenary camp, a civic church parade and an open day.
Any ex-members who have memorabilia or who would like to attend any of the celebrations can email Chris Allen at gsl@2nderith.org or visit the group’s website at 2nderith.org
