A CHEMICAL spill outside a care home this afternoon (February 23) left one man in hospital and closed a busy road.
Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to Bickley Park Road at 12.45pm after a 40-year-old man was burnt by a chemical he was carrying on the back of a delivery truck.
The blue and grey Sun Choice Europe van was dropping off dishwasher detergent, washing up liquid and laundry stain remover to Lauriston House Care Centre when the accident happened.
Four fire engines attended the scene and the victim, thought to be the driver of the van, was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Bromley Police say he was suffering from breathing problems and chest pains at the scene.
Officers closed one side of Bickley Park Road and diverted traffic along Blackbrook Lane.
At 2.10pm this afternoon, fire crews were still at the scene deciding whether the van was safe enough to move.
The cleaning chemicals on the van were all thought to be safe apart from the laundry stain remover which is potentially corrosive.
