FLOWERS and handwritten messages have begun to decorate the roadside where a young man was killed when his car hit a bus.
William Cullen from Bromley died after the blue Ford Fiesta he was driving hit a bus in Croydon Road on Saturday afternoon (February 20).
One message signed by Mum, Dad and Amy, thought to be his sister, says: “Our lovely son William.
“You were always a good hardworking boy, thinking of others before yourself.
“Words cannot express how much we loved you.”
Mr Cullen died at the scene and a post mortem examination carried out yesterday revealed the 22-year-old died from serious head injuries.
The accident, involving a route 367 bus, happened on the Croydon and Bromley border and an air ambulance was sent to the scene.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Long Lane, Croydon Road and Tannery Close at around 3.30pm.
Another message signed by Sal and attached to the many bunches of flowers tied to a lamp post reads: “I can’t quite believe you’re gone.
“Such a kind person with a huge heart and a very cheeky smile.”
Part of Long Lane was closed by police for much of Saturday afternoon.
The London Ambulance Service says a teenage girl on the bus was taken to Mayday Hospital, Croydon, with minor injuries.
The other passengers were checked over at the scene.
