AN INTENSIVE care nurse has flown out to Haiti to help care for the victims of the earthquake.
Hattie Hillman has taken two weeks unpaid leave as a staff nurse at Lewisham Hospital to go to Cap Haitien in the north of Haiti to care for injured survivors.
The 31-year-old will be taking gels and wipes for infection control and two anaesthetic machines, which have been donated by Lewisham Hospital.
Miss Hillman from Dulwich said: “Many of the patients in the hospital are paraplegics or have undergone traumatic amputations as a result of crush injuries sustained in the earthquake.
“The anaesthetic machines will be a lifeline to patients in the hospital.”
Miss Hillmann has funded the trip herself but hopes to raised £5,000 for the Haiti Hospital Appeal, which provides health care and medical supplies.
So far she has raised £4,181 for the charity, which has been running health services in Cap Hatien for the last three years.
