A CARE home has been the first to benefit from a recycling project which converts plastic paint containers into benches.
William Wood House on Shrublands Close, Sydenham, which is home to 24 elderly residents, was presented with a bench for the conservatory.
The bench was made from 400 plastic paint containers and was donated by painting and maintenance contractor, Seddon Property Services, and Crown Paints, which have jointly developed the project.
Seddon Property Services takes its empty Crown Paint containers to Crown Decorator Centres, where the containers are sent to a specialist company and manufactured into benches.
Senior project surveyor from L&Q, Russell Haigh, said: “The bench is a good example of L&Q working with its contractors and suppliers to give something back to our residents.
“The residents of William Wood House are really pleased with the bench especially as they are the first to benefit from this project.”
Other products such as rubbish bins can also be produced from the recycled material.
