RUGBY teams representing North West Kent College took part in the annual tens tournament hosted at Medway Rugby Club earlier this month to compete for the Steve Far Cup.
NWK College entered two teams with 20 players currently undertaking courses at the College.
The tournament began with matches against other further education colleges from Kent and surrounding area, including Canterbury, London Leisure, Mid Kent and West Kent.
With freezing weather conditions with and blowing across the pitch, it was extremely difficult for any team to play running rugby.
There was some very good individual rugby, however, considering the poor conditions and both teams demonstrated good interlinking passing and strong tacking.
They improved their rugby skills as the day progressed and the day was topped off with NWK College winning the Steve Far Cup.
Rugby at NWK College is becoming popular with the students and success at this tournament reflects this interest.
Success is also due to the hard work of Lee Amzalegs (community rugby coach) and Sean Franz (rugby coach), who are looking forward to league structures being implemented for post 16 students in September.
NWK College’s Ian Harman said: “The players at NWK College have shown rapid development and the skill level of the team is improving all the time.
“It must also be said there is certainly a team spirit with the players and every player involved has shown high levels of dedication and commitment.”
The college’s open day takes place on March 8 between 3.30pm and 8.30pm.
