A NEW landmark building is growing on the banks of the River Thames.
Work on the new clubhouse at Erith Yacht Club, off Manor Road, Erith, is now well underway as part of a £2.35m project to provide a lasting legacy from London’s 2012 Olympic Games.
The funding, from the government’s Sustainable Communities Fund, has a time limit of March this year, so the project must be finished by then or the club will have to return any unspent money.
Once completed, the new clubhouse will provide a modern two-storey onshore building, with disabled access and facilities, changing rooms, a bar, a club room, outside terraces and function, training and meeting rooms with glass walls overlooking the river.
The current clubhouse, a former Norwegian car ferry is going back to Norway where it will be refurbished and then displayed in a naval museum.
