A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been found guilty of grooming and raping a 13-year-old boy.
Gregor McMurtrie, of Leybridge Court, Lee, was also convicted at Woolwich Crown Court of inciting his teenage victim to take part in sexual activity.
The boy was approached by McMurtrie via a chat room on the internet in the early hours of August 23 last year.
He suggested they meet that morning and at around 6.15am they went back to McMurtrie’s house.
The victim tried to leave but McMurtrie would not let him and then raped him.
He told his mother what had happened the following day and she called the police.
Officers from Lewisham police’s Sapphire Unit and Greenwich police investigated the incident and McMurtrie was arrested on August 27.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Kate Wixey said: “McMurtrie purposely used a chat room to target a youngster. He abused the trust and vulnerability of a 13-year-old boy who has had to relive his ordeal to testify at court. Hopefully, now the case is over he can begin to move on.
“Sexual offences against children are particularly heinous crimes and we would urge victims or anyone who suspects a crime has occurred to contact the police.”
McMurtrie was convicted on February 8 and will be sentenced on March 19.
