A 26-YEAR-OLD man who died from stab wounds has been named as Mark Corcoran.
Mr Corcoran from Croydon died after being stabbed near Crystal Palace's football stadium.
Formal identification has not yet taken place but Met Police are confident this is the victim.
A murder investigation has been launched following the attack at around 8.20pm yesterday in Whitehorse Lane near Selhurst Park stadium.
It appears that Mr Corcoran was stabbed before staggering into a shop asking for help.
Police and the ambulance service attended but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Met spokesman said there was so far no evidence to suggest the incident was connected to yesterday's football match between Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
An incident room has been opened under Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command based in Lewisham.
Det Chf Insp Lyons from HSCC said: "We know that Mr Corcoran attended a wedding on Valentine's Day and we are appealing for anyone who has knowledge of his attendance at this wedding or his movements throughout the day to come forward.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Crystal Palace football ground, particularly after 7.30pm and who may have seen or heard anything."
A post-mortem examination was scheduled for this afternoon (February 15) at Croydon Mortuary.
Anyone with information should call 020 8721 4961 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
