BUILDING on the success of last year’s sporting activities for pupils with disabilities, a sports partnership organised a similar event this year.

The Bromley School Sport Partnership invited 25 youngsters with physical or hearing impairments to Kelsey Park Sports College in Beckenham on Thursday (February 11) for a series of cricket related activities.

It was held in partnership with the Cricket 4 Change charity which delivers school coaching programmes and organises local clubs, while training and selecting talented players for county squad training and competitions.

Whilst the event centred on enjoyment and participation, the coaches also identified several students who have now been invited to represent Kent in a county cricket competition at Lord’s cricket ground this week.

The partnership's competition manager Katherine Baird said: “It was a fantastic event with young people from across the borough having the opportunity to take part in new and challenging activities related to cricket.

“For those who have been selected to play at Lords cricket ground it will be an amazing opportunity’.

Last year, a multi sport event was held at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre for pupils in mainstream school with disabilities as part of the South London Podium Potential programme.

The Bromley School Sport Partnership provides physical activity opportunities for youngsters in the borough.
