A LEADING Chinese dance troupe has chosen a Sydenham school for the opening performance of its national tour.

The youngsters from RDFZ, one of the most prestigious high schools in Beijing, performed dances and martial arts inspired by traditional folklore when they visited Sydenham High School in Westwood Hill.

The event was broadcast to all classrooms in the independant girls’ school and also nationally to schools part of the Girls’ Day School Trust educational organisation.

Headteacher Kathryn Pullen was also presented with a calligraphy scroll inscribed with Chinese characters that mean ‘Never tire of learning’.

Mrs Pullen said: “Some of us saw them perform two years ago in London and I knew seeing this performance would illuminate our students learning about Chinese culture and history.”

The tour coincides with Chinese New Year celebrations which begin on Sunday (February 14).
