A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy has cycled five miles around a park to raise money for the survivors of the Haiti earthquake.
Alex Phornnarit of Netherby Road, Forest Hill, hopes to raise £2,000 for the Red Cross after completing a sponsored cycle around Dulwich Park.
The pupil from Fairlawn Primary School in Honor Oak Road, Forest Hill, has so far raised £1,511 which will go towards buying tents for 40 people, tools, crayons and colouring books for children and a wood burning stove.
Alex was inspired by Charlie Simpson, also aged seven, who raised more than £203,000 for Unicef by cycling five miles around South Park in Fulham.
Alex’s mum, Barbara Guinn, said: “Alex did four laps but half way through his legs got tired so we talked about what the money would be used for. He finished the last two laps no problem.”
The Red Cross is providing medical aid and water for survivors as well as shelter kits, personal hygiene kits and blankets.
