HOUSEHOLDS are being reminded to be on their guard following a distraction burglary at the home of an elderly woman.

A man called at the home of a woman in her 70s in Alder Way, Swanley, saying he had been sent to fix her taps.

Once inside the bogus caller moved between a number of rooms and then said he had to leave.

After he had gone, the resident noticed money was missing from her handbag.

Kent police’s Detective Sergeant Ben Turner said: “It’s very easy to be taken in by the excuses distraction burglars use.

“Our advice is never let anyone into your home if you’re not expecting them.

“If in doubt ring the police, the genuine caller will understand.”

Anyone with information about the incident, which happened at about 3.15pm on February 3, should call police on 01732 379217 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
