SCHOOLS in north Kent have raised money to help Haiti recover from the earthquake that devastated the nation.
Cobham Hall and Swan Valley Community School in Swanscombe both held fundraising events earlier this month, with proceeds going to charities supporting the relief effort in Haiti.
Pupils at Cobham Hall, the boarding school off Brewers Road, raised around £1,200 through paying to wear red for the day and a sponsored netball game between students and teachers.
Students at Swan Valley, in Southfleet Road, raised around £800 through a variety of sponsored sporting events.
Headteacher at Swan Valley, Nigel Jones, said: “We wanted to take time to show our thoughts are with the Haitian community as it faces great difficulties.”
The earthquake near Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince on January 12 is believed to have killed between 240,000 and 400,000 people and left 1.2m homeless.
