A DOUBLE world champion and Olympic medalist has been inspiring some of Bexley’s brightest sporting achievers.
Rower Sarah Winckless was at Erith leisure centre on Saturday to present the prizes at Bexley’s annual Young People’s Sports Awards.
The awards brought together more than 200 young people from across the borough who have excelled in sport by competing at local, national or international level, or by coaching or volunteering.
Also presenting some of the prizes were the young athletes who are on the borough’s Sporting Best scheme.
Sporting Best is a joint sponsorship scheme between Bexley Council and Coca-Cola Enterprise Ltd in Foots Cray, to give financial support to top young Bexley sportsmen and women.
The event was held in partnership with Hurstmere and Woodside schools sports partnerships and Parkwood Leisure.
Cabinet member for sport, Councillor Peter Catterall said it was “fantastic” to see the Sporting Best athletes presenting some of the prizes.
He added:” I am confident these are the people who are going to be not just local heroes, but national and international sports stars of the future."
