SLADE Green Junior and Infant schools may become part of the new academy being created in Crayford.
Bexley Council and Haberdashers’ Aske’s Federation, which will run the new Crayford academy, have approached the government with the idea.
Councillor Simon Windle, Bexley cabinet member for schools said: ”By continuing to work together with Haberdashers' Aske’s and making the Slade Green schools an integral part of an already successful federation, we feel that we would be able to best support them in the challenges that they face.”
Bexley has been looking at the possibility of building a new school in Slade Green to replace the current schools.
The new academy in Iron Mill Lane, has already incorporated the former Barnes Cray Primary School into its primary department.
Children from Slade Green will get priority for places at the new academy, but incorporating the Slade Green schools, would mean every child at Slade Green Junior School would be guaranteed a place there.
Federation chief executive Dr Elizabeth Sidwell said: “Slade Green is already established as an important feeder school for the academy and we look forward to consulting on this exciting proposal to bring the two schools fully into the federation.”
If Secretary of State Ed Balls approves the idea, a public consultation will take place later this year.
