IMAGINE spending 900 hours knocking on doors meeting and greeting people.

Well, this is what’s in store for the Petts Wood and Knoll safer neighbourhood team who have embarked on a mammoth task.

The team’s PCSOs are going to knock on the door of every single home in the ward.

They estimate it will take them between six and nine months to complete their mission of giving crime prevention advice to everyone in the neighbourhood.

PCSO Joanne Matthews from the team said: "We are looking to tackle the issue of burglary and ensure Petts Wood remains one of the safest places to live.

“By completing our initiative and visiting every residential address on the ward we will ensure that each resident has had the opportunity to get to know the team and raise any concerns with us."

Sergeant John Kemp, head of the Petts Wood and Knoll Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Although Petts Wood and Knoll is one of the safest wards, we are not complacent and we are doing all we can to prevent our residents becoming victims of burglars, which is why we are targeting our resources and efforts in this area and reiterating all of the simple safety advice to help the public make their homes more secure."

According to the 2001 census there were 5,370 homes in the ward back at the turn of the century.

If the PCSOs spend 10 minutes at each home, allowing for a slight increase in properties built during the past nine years, this amounts to 900 hours of meeting and greeting.

News Shopper decided to look into what else you could do in 900 hours.

If you drove at 30 miles an hour you could go from Petts Wood to Armenia and back again five times.

But if you would prefer to stay at home you could watch all six Star Wars films more than 67 times or roast 240 4.5kg turkeys, one at a time.
